Fraud & Scam Prevention
Providence Bank & Trust will never call, text or email you asking for your confidential banking information. NEVER SHARE verification codes received through text message or from authenticator apps such as DUO with anyone.
Fraudsters will try to gain access to your confidential banking information and transactions by claiming to be from Providence Bank & Trust, presenting themselves as someone trying to help.
Fraudsters will often spoof (replicate) the bank’s phone number, mention a department or employee’s name, and/or send an email using the Providence Bank & Trust name.
Recent fraud trends indicate scammers are posing as Providence Bank & Trust representatives and may contact customers through phone calls and/or emails regarding suspicious account activity, transaction verification for ACH Batches or Wire Transfers or security concerns. They often create a sense of urgency and may ask customers to click a link, share sensitive information, share or enter online banking credentials. These links may contain malware or direct users to fraudulent websites designed to capture login information and gain unauthorized access to accounts.
To appear legitimate, scammers may:
- Spoof (replicate) Providence Bank & Trust’s phone number.
- Send emails using the Providence Bank & Trust name using a fictitious email address.
- Reference specific account activity, such as ACH Batches and transaction amounts.
- Ask you to verify an unauthorized transaction, such as an ACH debit or debit card purchase.
- Send links to websites that closely resemble Providence Bank & Trust’s website and ask you to log in to Digital Banking to verify transactions.
- Always access your account information through our official website by typing providence.bank directly into your browser.
- Claim immediate action is required to prevent fraud or account restrictions.
If you receive an email like this, it is NOT legitimate! Do NOT click on any links and delete immediately.
When/If Providence Bank & Trust contacts you regarding your account(s), we will
